For His Wake, New Orleans Teen Is Propped Up In Chair Playing Video Games

The family of a slain 18-year-old from New Orleans found a unique way to honor his short life. Renard Matthews was an avid gamer and loved the Boston Celtics so his mother decided to memorialize her son the way he lived, by posing him at his wake sitting in a chair playing video games while wearing his favorite Boston Celtics jersey and matching socks.

His mother, Temeka Matthews, told WGNO that her son was a bit of a "homebody" who spent most of his time playing video games and watching sports. She said that she recently bought him a dog in hopes of getting him out of the house more often. Neighbors described the teen as a "nice young man" who loved playing football and basketball.

According to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home is no stranger to odd requests for displaying the bodies of the deceased. The funeral home once was asked to set up the body a drummer in front of his drum set, and another woman was seated at a table with a beer and cigarette.
