Scooter Braun & 'Scandal' Writer Working On Selena-Inspired TV Drama

As we saw in recent years with the unveiling of her own Madame Tussauds statue and Google's homage to the late icon, Selena Quintanilla's legacy still lives strong. And yet, a loose version of her story might be introduced to a whole new generation if Scooter Braun has it his way.

On Wednesday (January 10), Deadline reported that ABC has closed a deal on a TV drama loosely based on the late Mexican star's life, with writing from Scandal's Miguel Nolla. The project, which is currently untitled, also has the stamp of approval from the Quintanilla family, particularly her father and sister: Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga. Nolla has worked on previous ABC productions like Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy.

Even though the series isn't autobiographical, it will draw on a few similar parallels as it focuses on a chart-topping pop star by the name of Alex Guerra, who returns home to her estranged family in Texas and is thrown in the middle of a love triangle. According to the plot line, Guerra comes back home after a lengthy five-year hiatus to attempt to pick up the pieces after a family crisis. It’ll also include the other obvious aspects of any singer's narrative like career hardships and dark family secrets.

Braun's forthcoming Selena-inspired project is just the latest TV project for the business owner after SB Project's CBS series, Scorpion, and their Freeform series, Movie Night with Karlie Kloss.
