The Greenville Zoo announced this morning that our beloved African Elephant, Ladybird.

Ladybird had been ill for the past month or so from either Colic or abdominal pain as a result of the change in the weather. She had been receiving supportive care, according to a press release from the Greenville Zoo, and while she had improved, most recently her health began to deteriorate. Ladybird was found lying down in the barn yesterday afternoon and after many attempts to  help her stand, the Greenville Zoo and staff determined euthanasia was their best course of action.

Ladybird was 44 years old, and she will be sorely missed.
